karibean1. The story is set in modern-day New Orleans.
2. Characters start the game unaware of their past lives. They (believe they) are normal, everyday people.
3. Characters may be unaware of their past lives for as long as you want them to be. They may become aware of their past lives at any point after the game begins.
4. Once awakened, characters remember as little or as much of their past life as you choose.
5. Once awakened, characters recognize other members of their shared myth, even if they are not from the exact same canon timeline. For example, if one character was a Marian Hawke, she will recognize a Fenris even if that Fenris comes from a universe with a Garrett Hawke.
6. Once awakened, characters get a "strong feeling" about other reincarnates who are not part of their myth. This is a sense that the other person is important or like them in some way. However, characters do not recognize people from other myths. For example, Marian Hawke would have a strong feeling that Teddy Altman is important (and probably a reincarnate like her), but she does not recognize him or know what story he comes from unless he tells her.
7. Even unaware, characters find themselves drawn to other reincarnates. This can be as mild or as intense as you choose.
8. Both unaware and awakened characters find themselves strongly drawn to a strange coffee shop-slash-bookstore in the French Quarter. No one can remember when Phoenix Effect opened--it's almost as if it appeared magically, overnight. It is sprawling yet cozy, quaint yet chic, and has the best damn beignets you've ever tasted. It feels just a little magical, though of course that's impossible...but if you find yourself craving a certain kind of food or drink, whatever you desire (within reason) always seems to be found just around the next corner. No one seems to know anything about its mysterious owner, but if your character is looking for a job or a place for their band to perform, the door is open.
9. All characters who find themselves at Phoenix Effect (as all reincarnates inevitably do) feel oddly compelled to sign up for a shop-sponsored e-journaling system and community. Funnily enough, even though the journals are full of people who are unaware of their past lives, everyone there has that spark. (i.e. Everyone with a journal is a reincarnate. Your characters may eventually figure this out.)
