A lot of the canons we're using as past lives for our characters are ones that update/have new additions either regularly or irregularly. New movies (*coughEndgamecough*) or episodes of the show or issues of the comic or books in the series or whole seasons getting dumped on Netflix. To try to be fair and consistent about handling this, we wanted to clarify a few things:

1. The canon your character started with is the canon they have. There is a little wiggle room here, if you're the only one playing from that canon and they're not aware yet and you didn't denote an exact endpoint in your intro, but for the most part, what's there when they're brought in is it. So, for example, those of us with MCU characters have the movies and shows that are part of that universe up to, but NOT INCLUDING, Avengers Endgame.

1b. If the canon is one that has some sort of self-contained units, please those units. If your character is from a television show, don't pick them up from the middle of a season. Or from the middle of a book. Of course this all goes out the window when you're talking about comics, but what's new? Lolsob. Again, there's a little wiggle room there if you're the only one playing from that canon and they're not aware yet--if you started them and it was the middle of the season and the season ends before they aware, you can probably include memories of the whole season when they do aware. Just...pick a logical ending point as your ending point.

2. Everyone from the same canon has the same amount of that canon included. So, again using our MCU babies as an example--Steve, Bucky, and Wanda are all from the same point in canon, namely the end of Infinity War. We couldn't have Steve from Infinity War and Bucky from Winter Soldier and Wanda from Civil War. Your character does not have to remember all of their canon when they remember. If the end bits are kind of fuzzy, so be it. This is mostly to cover players not being able to be perfectly up-to-date on everything ever, though it could also be the result of character trauma or other IC reasons. Just keep in mind that other characters may remember those things and treat your character accordingly.

2b. If you're bringing a character in with someone else from the same canon, please discuss with them how much is included beforehand, because you need to agree. If you are the only one with a character claimed from a canon, anyone who later joins you will have to abide by what you set, but try to be reasonable with your choices. If your canon is a relatively simple, complete set that's been out for a while, just include it all, okay? Like if it's a book series like Harry Potter, don't go "I'm only using the first five books because I said so" when it's a pretty reasonable expectation that anyone else might want to use all seven. Again, there's more wiggle room if you're the only person playing there and if it's a more obscure canon. If your canon is a multi-faceted beast of a thing and you're not sure what to include, feel free to hit me up and talk it out. Or just be a little vague and hand-wavey about it. Basically, just be thoughtful about your choices, thank.

3. We may, at some point in the future, have an event where everyone would have a chance to update what's included in their character's canon (still following the rules above re: everyone within a canon agreeing on what's included), but it wouldn't be for several months yet and all the mods would have to agree and who knows if the game will still be around then. Just to let you know there's a possibility you'll get to play with new memories then, if that's something you're interested in.

1. This is an adult game that will contain violence and sexuality. All players should be 18 or older; by applying, you are verifying that you are at least 18 years old.

2. In-Character drama should remain In-Character (IC). Out-of-Character knowledge should remain Out-of-Character (OOC). Please take care that IC and OOC never cross paths. Similarly, while characters may on occasion be racist, sexist, homophobic, or just plain assholes, players shouldn’t be. Respect your fellow human beings.

3. If you are having trouble with another player, do your best to work it out on your own. If you are unable to come to a compromise, a mod may be called in to settle the argument. If a mod is called in to settle a dispute, however, what the mod says goes.
--Those mods are Kari (karibean), Khir (khirsah), and Mack (mizzmarvel). They will be rotating some mod duties throughout the game to spread out the work, but reaching out to any of them is fine. If they can’t help you, they will point you to the one who can.

4. There is no character cap. There are no activity checks or requirements. Be as active and as fruitful as you’d like; however, please be aware that more active characters will be given preference in plot. If you take a character who is closely tied to another—either by romance or plot—please be courteous to the other player and maintain a reasonable level of activity.

5. There are no restrictions on the kinds of personal, character-based plots you may run. However, all posts with triggering or violent material should be cut-tagged and warned so that other players may choose whether or not to read that material. Triggering material includes—but is not limited to—suicidal thoughts or actions, rape, abuse, abortion/miscarriage, death of a loved one, and violence against others.

6. Dramatic, character-based plots are strongly encouraged; however, players must be careful not to use the threat of peril to emotionally manipulate other players/characters. You may imperil your characters freely, but if you choose to call on others for help, make sure the players in question are happy to oblige.

7. To introduce a character, please put an introductory post in their journal. This would preferably include a little info on who they were in their past life, but must include info on who they are now. Things like age, occupation, personality, background are super helpful and let your fellow players know how their characters might be able to interact with yours. (Example: Klara/Varric)

8. All journals should be made with the format nola_pastlifename, just to make it easier to remember who is who. So Harry Potter would be nola_harrypotter and Hawkeye would be nola_hawkeye or nola_clintbarton or nola_katebishop. If the name you think you should use is taken, let the mods know and we’ll help you find one that isn’t.
